Jeanmal Prosper’s goal at the death saved Bracknell from a second consecutive defeat, much to Walton & Hersham’s frustration.
Walton won an early penalty when a ball across goal was met with a strike, which hit the arm of Johnson-Schuster. Rogalski stepped up and wrong footed Oualah to give Walton the lead 5 minutes in. Walton should have had a second, but a blinding save from Zaki tipping the ball onto the crossbar to deny Obeng kept the game at 1-0.
Walton continued on the front foot after their goal coming close multiple times, but the Robins did just enough to keep the ball out of their net. As much as Bracknell attempted to get forward, it just didn’t seem to click in the first 45, and the goal advantage going into half time was with the home side.
Bracknell had a much better start to the second half, coming out swinging and applying pressure on Walton with a few attempts at goal as they searched for the equaliser. Other than the fast start for Bracknell, the first 20 minutes of the second 45 were slow. Both teams were getting forward, but an end product seemed to be absent from both sides. Bracknell had a great chance when Gregory fired a low cross in, but it was just out of reach for Mazzone, who with any contact on the ball would’ve had it in the net. As the game went into 11 minutes of added time, Bracknell were still chasing the goal to get them level. Barker played a beautiful sidewinder up to Rogalski who thought he was through on goal, but Coomes held him up and Walton had to settle for a corner from the attack. Debutant Murphy’s shot from distance was saved by baker out for a corner.
From that corner, after 100 minutes of trying, Bracknell finally had their goal. The corner was initially cleared, but Bowerman put a ball in from the right side, which Prosper was first to and converted past Barker.
