The Robins slip to defeat in opening match of the new season.
After mixed fortunes during pre-season, and a number of new additions to the squad, the Robins travelled to Gosport Borough for the opening game of the season with the knowledge that this would be a tough opening game.
Despite the atrocious weather conditions the Robins made a bright start. However this was short-lived as Gosport started to get a foothold and carved out the first chance after 7 minutes but Michael Eacott was on hand to make the save.
The Robins did respond but neither side could convert any half-chances and the two sides went in to the break level.
The weather did improve for the second half and the Robins did enjoy they best spell of the game and probably should have opened the scoring. Gosport still looked dangerous and Eacott was called into action to make another good save.
The opening goal came from a Gosport corner, Eacott making the initial save from a header but Wassmer was on hand to fire home.
As we pressed for an equaliser spaces opened up in the Robins defence and Gosport extended their lead after 83 minutes when Barsa found space and his cross was met by Rew who header powerfully in to the bottom corner.
It was a disappointing start to the season and despite a convincing 4 -0 victory at Gosport last season, teams will have made changes to their squads and the Robins are no exception to this and we will need a little time to find our rhythm for the new league campaign.
With home games on Saturday and Tuesday on our new 3G the Robins will look to make the most of their home advantage.
