Didcot Town Home

The Robins turn on the style to get the season underway 

The Robins playing their first competitive match on the new 3G were rewarded with three points in a much improved performance. 

Both sides, looking to start on the front foot, exchanged early blows. Didcot had a penalty appeal turned down after two minutes, at the other end Grant and Esprit carved out opportunities to open the scoring but Bedders, in the Didcot goal, was on hand to make the saves. 

As the game settled, the Robins began to take control, the chances came but Didcot held firm. Didcot did threaten but Michael Eacott was alert and made a couple of comfortable saves. 

Despite the Robins having the upper hand the sides went in level a the break. 

After the break, Joe Grant came close to breaking the deadlock but was thwarted by a fine double save from Bedders. However, Didcot took the lead with Smith bundled the ball home after a goal mouth melee. 

Undeterred, the Robins still had the majority of procession and eventually broke the resolute Didcot defence when Ashley Lodge rifled home the equalisers after another fine save by Bedders. 

Eventually the Robins were in front as Zidan Akers neatly finished off a fine move. Didcot’s resolve had at last been broken when Esprit put the result beyond doubt in the 86th minute. 

The Robin’s were not finished and went 4 -1 ahead following a McNeill own goal, the gloss was put on a good performance when Nana Owusu, on his debut, fired home a free kick into the top corner deep into injury time. 

This performance should hopefully provide the confidence for tonight;s tough home fixture against Hungerford Town.
