Despite a number of injuries to key players, The Robins took control of the game from the 1st whistle and it was not long before we took the lead. Robb Sheridan launched a long throw into the Ashford box was flicked on by Justin Clayton and slotted home by Nathan Minhas (1-0).
Ashford tried to rally but were again undone again in the 22nd minute with a carbon copy of the first goal, except this time Minhas scored with a low overhead kick from close range.
Once again Ashford tried to get back into the match but the midfield and defence continued to control the game. We were a constant threat in attack, and sealed a dominant first-half display with a third when Max Herbert finished from close range from a Minhas cross following a great move down the right. We continued to press for the rest of the half, and despite numerous chances the score remained 3-0 at the break.
It was a little less frantic in the second half as we pressed the reset button and looked to control the play. The visitors worked hard to snuff out any chances with some great blocks, saves, and goal-line clearances. It was not until the 76th minute when Nathan Minhas was first to react and tapped home amongst a crowd of players following a Dan Carr corner, to complete his hat-trick.
Ashford did come close shortly after with a speculative shot from the half-way line which initially caused a Scott a moment of panic but it safely went wide of the post.
All in all a very good performance with the desire and work rate closer to expectation.
