Bracknell Town Football Club, formed in 1896, as Old Bracknell Wanderers and changed its name to Bracknell F.C. in 1949.
The club played in the local leagues until joining the Great Western league. After four seasons in this league and renaming the club Bracknell Town in 1962 the club was elected to the Surrey Senior League, which they won in the 1969/70 season. The club also won the league cup in 1968/69 and 1969/70. After this success, the club entered the Spartan League (later re-named the London Spartan League) and finished runners up on goal average in 1975/76, in which they also reach the fifth round of the FA Vase.
After winning the league in 1982/83, they were promoted in 1984 to the Isthmian League Division Two South. They were promoted to Division One as runners-up in 1985/86, finishing third in their highest ever league placing. However, in 1988/89, Bracknell Town were relegated and following a re-organisation of the Isthmian League were placed in Division Three in 19991/92.
2016 – 2017
At the start of the 2016/17 season under the guidance of new chairman Kayne Steinborn-Busse the club embarked on a major re-development of the ground with the installation of a state-of-the-art 3G pitch, changing facilities and club house and in-keeping with this total modernisation re-branded the club logo. The club reaped major benefits from this work with all teams down to the youngest age group were now able to play and train at Larges Lane.
2017 – 2018
In 2017/2018 season we had a titanic battle with Thatcham Town for the top slot, both teams accumulating 98 points for the season with Thatcham Town’s superior goal difference of 104 goals securing the title by a mere 2 goals. However, due to a restructure of the leagues our efforts were rewarded with promotion to Step 4 in to the Bostik South Central League. We also managed to get our own back by beating Thatcham in the final of the Bluefin Sport Challenge Cup to add yet another trophy to our collection.
2018 – 2019
The 2018/19 season was our first venture into Step 4 for many years and once again we came close, finishing second behind Hayes & Yeading and missing out on promotion by losing the play-off final to Cheshunt. We reached the semi-final of the Velocity Trophy with impressive victories against sides much higher up the footballing pyramid.
The Covid Years
Despite both the 2019/2020 and 2020/21 seasons being cut short by Covid, the club’s on-field ambitions were matched by our efforts off the field. We embarked on a project to move away from Larges Lane to build a new 2500 capacity stadium at Bottom Meadow, Sandhurst, which hosted our first competitive match in August 2021.
2021 – 2022
2021/2022 was a monumental season for the club, we gained promotion to Step 3 for the first time in our history. The Isthmian League South Central title secured with 96 points out of a possible 108 with a 20-point winning margin.
2022-2023
Under the guidance of joint managers Jamie McClurg & Carl Withers our first season in Step 3 was one that will go down in the club’s history. Reaching the 1st Round of the FA Cup and home tie against Ipswich Town FC, one game away from the quarter finals of the FA Trophy, our journey ending in a home defeat to Altrincham FC. Runners-up in the Southern Premier, missing out on promotion to Step 2 to a 90th minute goal against Truro Town in the play-off final.
2023 – 2024
Our 2022/23 on-field successes did not come without a cost. Our squad became somewhat depleted, several players were lured by clubs with a bigger budget. However, with the players that remained loyal to the cause, we will rebuild, the club’s journey will continue. A new state-of-the-art 3G pitch, the first of its kind in the UK, completed during the summer of 2023, at Bottom Meadow, Sandhurst. A reshaped squad and a managerial change mid-way through the season did not stop Jordan Ive and the team putting together fantastic late run to make the play-offs for the second consecutive year. Alas, a 2-1 defeat by AFC Totton in the semi-final ended our hopes of reaching step 2 for another season.
2024 – 2026
Another big year for the club, Bracknell Town FC was sold to new owners in July 2024, but control was returned to The SB Group in April 2025. Kayne Steinborn-Busse returns to raise standards both on and off the pitch, as part of the ongoing process, Matthew Saunders was appointed as manager in September 2025 but resigned shortly afterwards. Club legend Carl Davies took over the reins as interim manager for the foreseeable future.
