The Away Day Rough Guide to ……. AFC Hinksey

Ground: The Phoenix Club, Barton Village Road, Barton, Oxford, OX3 9LA

So what do we know about this Ground? Err…… not much, this season will be our first trip. Good old Wikipedia tells us that ‘Barton is a suburb of Oxford on the city’s eastern periphery, and that the area is predominantly made up of semi detached brick built houses, with a few pre-fabs and blocks of flats, all topped off with a new Swimming Pool’…… hmmm not particularly interesting then! But I’m sure we will get a friendly welcome and hopefully be able to comment more when we visit on the 22nd September   

History: Hinksey were formed in 2005 as Shelley Arms and played in the Oxford City FA League. They finished runners-up in the Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division in 2011/12 after having 9 points deducted for fielding an ineligible player, however they were still promoted to the Hellenic League Div 1 East for this coming season.

Expectations for 2012-13: “It’s been quite a journey when you consider that only six years ago we were playing as Shelley Arms in the Oxford City FA. The priority is to stay in the division, but think it will be a few years before we win it!”

Suggs’ Prediction for 2012-13: 6th – these guys are reportedly a tough team to play against and they have got quite used to winning over the last few seasons, even if it is at a lower level, I think they are going to surprise a few!

Home Colours: Shirts Purple, shorts and socks black.

Directions: A40 from London take last exit at Headington Roundabout. Take first left after leaving roundabout on North Way. Follow North Way to end where road merges to become Barton Village Road. Ground at bottom of hill on left.
