Bracknell Town youth football tournament is open for entries

pitch

The Bracknell Town youth football tournament is open for entries for all age groups from U7 through U14. The redesigned format has been a roaring success and the feedback from previous years has been overwhelmingly positive, ultimately, we try to offer something a little different to others:

 – Played on our 3G pitch at the redeveloped Larges Lane stadium it offers a very unique tournament experience for children to enjoy.

 – The event is hosted over 2 weekends May 19th/20th & June 9th/10th

 – All age groups are competitive & is Invite only

 – For teams playing U8 this season we are offering a tournament at 7 aside

 – For teams playing U10 this season we are offering a tournament at 9 aside.

 – Recognising the hard work coaches/managers put in, we also don’t charge for the coach or manager entry/car parking on the day.

 – We offer returning teams a discount, reflecting the fact that without them our tournament wouldn’t be quite so great.

 – If that is not enough from today until Sunday 18th February we are offering £5 off the entry price for most age groups Please note Spaces are limited,

Dates & prices (price is applicable until Sunday 18 Feb and includes above mentioned discount)

Dr. Phillip Lee visits proposed site for RB Sports Hub

RBsportshub

Dr. Phillip Lee, MP for Bracknell, was welcomed on a visit to the site of a proposed sports and education hub at Ranelagh school by headteacher Beverley Stevens.

Project ambassador Steve Shortland, Director of Sport at Wellington College, led a walk of the proposed site as he highlighted the key benefits of the ambitious plans:

“As well as building new state of the art facilities for Netball, Rugby, Football and Athletics, providing outstanding playing, coaching and training opportunities for children and young people in the community from the age of 6 to Adult, the project would be offering educational opportunities to young athletes at the age of 16.

Our aim would be to have coaching courses and qualifications running alongside the school curriculum so that we could look to add to the athlete’s opportunities in the club and the local community. The overall aim being that although we accept some athletes will move on to higher education and maybe even a better standard of sports, the majority would find work in the local community and continue their association with the schools/clubs in either a playing or coaching capacity or both. Part of the projects end goal would also be a real focus on exit strategies and work in the local community.”

Mrs. Stevens emphasised the “extraordinary opportunity for the school, which would be utterly unattainable in the current financial climate.  The opportunity for these first-class facilities to benefit the young people in the community is not to be missed.”  She shared the results of recent consultations, with “The young people and their parents are supportive and very excited about it, as it will provide a wide range of sporting and educational facilities”

After hearing about the plans and visiting with staff and learners at the school, Dr. Lee commented, “Whilst needing to take note of local residents’ concerns, we have an exciting venture here. By utilising this land for the greater good – not just for football and sport, but also for education – the facilities in Bracknell will be much improved and I will be providing my full support for this project.”

ROBINS MAKE THE QUARTER FINAL AFTER EXTRA TIME WIN

IMG_2560 (1)Seb Bowerman gave the Robins the perfect start on six minutes when he raced onto Short’s flick on to fire low past the keeper. Bowerman came close again three minutes later, coming within inches of getting on the end of Joe Grant’s Cross. Bracknell threatened again when Bohane timed his run perfectly to get on the end of a through ball from McClurg, but the hosts keeper did enough to hold him up until a teammate could retreat and force Bohane to put his effort wide.

Berks & Bucks Senior County Cup Quarte- Final

We took on our near neighbours Slough Town at Lane on Tuesday night for a place in the Berks&Bucks Senior Cup Semi-final. Prior to the game a decision had been made to dedicate the game to the late Kevin McGoldrick, who had sadly passed away earlier the previous week. Kevin who was affectionately known to all at Slough as Super Kev had been the Rebels’ physiotherapist for the last 32 years. A collection was held to contribute towards Super Kev’s funeral costs and Kick off was preceded by an immaculately-observed minute’s silence in his memory.
