Bracknell Town’s pre-season picked up pace as they played two matches inside 24 hours this past weekend.
First up was Combined Counties League Premier Division side Sandhurst Town on Friday night. The match was switched from Sandhurst’s Bottom Meadow ground and was played on the 3G pitch at Garth Hill College and finished in an entertaining one all draw.
Youth team goalkeeper Matt Hill had a good game but could do nothing to keep out a first half penalty which was slammed into the bottom left hand corner. The award of the spot-kick was harsh as Jake White – who also had a great game – made contact with the ball before a tangle of legs but the referee was caught wrong side of the action.
After the break, the Robins stepped up a gear and substitute Carl Barrie drilled a shot against the left hand post from twenty yards.
Fellow substitute James Rogers got a deserved equaliser as he pounced on a spilled ball from the ‘keeper to fire home.
Jamie Clarke played in both matches but other than him, a different set of players travelled to Bisham Abbey on Saturday afternoon to face Reading Senior League side Cookham Dean.
Dean were big and strong but Bracknell had too much about them and ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.
After Cookham hit the post in the fifth minute, Scott Williams hammered a great shot into the corner from twenty yards out before he hit the right hand post from close range.
Shane Cooper-Clark slotted home a penalty to double the advantage after Charlie Evanson had been fouled.
A third goal followed on 39 minutes as Matt Humphrey lashed in from outside the area but Dean responded and pulled a goal back through a fantastic free-kick which was curled from the right into the top left hand corner.
Humphrey finished the scoring inside the final ten minutes as he met George Hobden’s low cross to slot home from five yards.
It was a good weekend for the Larges Lane outfit with another game under the belt for whole squad. The Robins now travel to Alton Town on Tuesday night.
