MAIDENHEAD UNITED Reserves retained their winning start to the season last night and went joint top of Division 1 East with Rayners Lane following a 4-3 win at home to AFC Hinksey.
First teamer Ashley Watson netted twice for the Magpies as Jonathan Hippolyte and Kyle Lucas also scored. Anaclet Odhiambo did reply with a brace for the visitors but they slipped to their first defeat in four.
Elsewhere Headington Amateurs and Chinnor shared a 1-1 draw.
In Division 1 West, much fancied Brimscombe & Thrupp were beaten 2-1 at Fairford Town and Wootton Bassett Town won 4-1 at Clanfield.
Locally in the Premier Division Ascot United got three points on the board with a 1-0 win at Highmoor IBIS while fellow new-boys Newbury hammered Abingdon Town 9-1 with Darren Jones bagging a hat-trick.
Reading Town slumped to another defeat, this time 2-0 at early leaders Slimbridge, and Larges Lane tenants Wokingham & Emmbrook were beaten 4-1 by Wantage Town at home – the Satsuma’s once again showed though that the Lane is becoming the centre of the Hellenic football universe with the attendance high of the night at 79.
* The 106 who watched Bracknell Town’s 2-1 defeat to Rayners Lane on Saturday was the highest in the Hellenic League
