Bracknell Town, Ascot United and Wokingham & Emmbrook provided a football feast over the weekend for local football fans in the FA CUP with Budweiser Extra Preliminary Round.

The three sides who played Friday, Saturday and Sunday all posted attendances of 200+, the highest figures in the Hellenic League.

Ascot United’s 6-1 thumping of Sandhurst Town courtesy of a double brace from former Robin Ben Knight was watched by 231, the Robins 2-1 win over rivals Binfield was seen by 375 at Larges Lane and Wokingham & Emmbrook’s 2-0 defeat to Camberley Town (also at Larges Lane) had 200 spectators.

In comparison, only Witney Town and Wootton Bassett posted over 100 with most Hellenic clubs averaging around 60.

Hopefully the early season support and largely positive results for local clubs will see a good percent of those returning on a weekly basis to support the teams whose coffers were boosted, though the staggered staging of games over the weekend will inevitably have helped the attendances.

The next round of the FA Cup takes place on Saturday 25th August with Bracknell hosting Kidlington or Shrivenham and Ascot travelling to Bishop’s Cleeve.
