ROBINS TAKE ALL 3 POINTS ON THE ROAD IN A FIVE-STAR WIN
Seb Bowerman nearly gave the Robins the perfect start on 2 minutes, when he cut in off the left wing and bent an effort at goal that look destined for the top corner but Cavanagh in the Abingdon goal dived full stretch to tip it over the bar.
The Robins dominated the early exchanges and on 18 minutes they had the lead, Bohane was in the right place to head home after Withers had flicked on McClurg’s freekick.
Half an hour had been played when Bowerman superbly brought down a cross field ball from Davies, made his way past 3 Abingdon defenders and into box where he looked to cross for Bohane, but before he could get his cross away he was tripped by a despairing tackle, he picked himself up to send the keeper the wrong way from the spot to double the lead on 33 minutes.
Only a minute later the Robins had the ball in the back of the net again, McClurg ghosted into the box to turn in Grant’s cross but was denied by a dubious offside flag. Abingdon looked to get back into the game before the break, they threatened on 43 minutes when Dejon Noel-Williams raced onto a through ball but Justin Clayton was quickly across to snuff out any danger and the Robins went in at the break two goals to the good.
The Robins looked to add to their lead early in the second half and it came on 63 minutes, when Joe Gater playing an unfamiliar midfield role, picked up a loose ball outside the Abingdon box and bent a superb effort in off the far post. Three minutes later the lead was 4! Jamie McClurg played a quick free kick to Bohane 30 yards from goal and with no one around him he struck an effort at goal and with the aid of a slight deflection it found its way into bottom corner.
Joe Grant capped off a dominant display with an 85 minute goal of the season contender, Cavanagh was off his line to make a clearance but fell to Grant just inside the host’s half, Robins fans in the crowd called for Grant to ‘shooot’ and he duly obliged taking one touch to control the ball and a second to half volley it at goal, bouncing once on it’s way into the roof of the net.
