So what do we know about this Ground? A lovely relatively new ground this one, probably the best we will play at in this league. The ‘Railwaymen’ moved to this purpose built new ground in 1999 moving from their old Station Road Ground. All the normal facilities, including ‘Doddy’s Bar’, anda lovely playing surface as well.
History: The club was founded in 1907 and in their early days competed in the North Bucks League, Reading League before becoming founder members of the Hellenic League in 1953, where they won the championship at the first attempt. The first team moved between the Hellenic League’s two divisions on a number of occasions but eventually established themselves as one of the top teams in the Premier Division. In 2004–05 they were only denied the title due to the deduction of one point for fielding an ineligible player in a 1–1 draw at Tuffey Rovers at the start of the season, but made up for it by beating A.F.C Sudbury to claim the FA Vase. The following season they finally claimed the league title, becoming the first team in Hellenic League history to accrue 100 points in a season, and were thus promoted to the Southern League, which is where they are now.
Suggs’ Prediction for 2012-13: 15th – not a good season last time out for these guys, finishing rock bottom with only 19 points. With the focus for Didcot being purely on the first team I don’t expect much different this year.
Home Colours: Red shirts, white shorts and socks.
Website: Yes, good for the 1st team, just a link to the Hellenic League website for the reserves: http://www.didcottownfc.com/
